What is Unleash the Power 2019

The Asia-Pacific Regional Conference, Unleash the Power 2019, is based on the Bible verse, Acts 1:8. We believe that the power of the Holy Spirit is strong enough to move mountains and sensitive enough to urge hearts toward change. There will be time for you to connect with others who serve in your area of ministry as well as engage in field break-out sessions. Conference topics will focus on how the power of the Holy Spirit is unleashed to move in the following areas:

  • Church Multiplication
  • Intergenerational Faith Communities
  • Compassionate Churches
  • Christlike Leadership
  • Using Loving Dialogue

Laity, clergy and ministry coordinators who serve on the Asia-Pacific region are encouraged to register. Prayerfully consider attending this exciting conference in Chiang Mai, Thailand from October 18-22, 2019. Please arrive by 3:00 pm on Friday, October 18 in time for dinner and the opening session. We also invite you to attend the Asia-Pacific Regional Theology Conference. This event will take place within the Regional Conference on October 22-23.

Filimao Chambo

General Superintendent

Was elected to the office of general superintendent in the Church of the Nazarene in June 2017 by its 29th General Assembly, held in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. He was director of the Africa Region at the time of his election, a post he had held since 2009. As regional director, Dr. Chambo was responsible for overseeing the church planting and development efforts of the Church of the Nazarene across the continent of Africa.

Mark Louw

Asia-Pacific Regional Director

Mark Louw Since September 1, 1999, Mark and Linda Louw have served as cross-cultural workers with the CoN. A native of South Africa, Mark served as regional education coordinator for the Africa Region and as the field strategy coordinator for the Africa West Field. Linda served in various key support roles. Following five years in Côte d’Ivoire and seven years in Senegal, they lived a brief ten months in South Africa before Mark was elected as Regional Director of the Asia-Pacific Region. Mark received his BA LAS from Pennsylvania State University and his MA Theology from Manchester University. In February 2014, Korea Nazarene University conferred on Mark the Doctor of Divinity degree in recognition of his contribution to global church development and expansion.

Samantha Chambo

Samantha Chambo is a preacher and teacher of the Word. Samantha and her husband Filimao, served with the Church of the Nazarene in various capacities on the Africa region for the past twenty years. Samantha served as pastor, teacher at the Nazarene Theological College in South Africa and as the NMI coordinator for the Africa region during this time. The Chambos are blessed with two children, Tsakani 18 and Emanuel 15. Samantha holds a Masters in Theology from the University of Manchester and is currently working on a Ph.D. in Biblical studies from the same institute. Samantha’s passion is to help everyone understand the power of God’s wonderful love.

David Ackerman

Dr. David Ackerman serves as the Field Education Coordinator for the Philippine/Micronesia Field and as the chair of the Asia-Pacific Regional Course of Study Advisory Committee. He also teaches for various schools on the topic of Biblical Studies and has written several books about Paul’s Letters. He writes a daily devotional blog and weekly blog for pastors.

Bruce Allder

Bruce is currently the Director of the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Program at Nazarene Theological College in Brisbane Australia. He is senior lecturer in Pastoral Theology and has been in theological education for over 20 years. Educationally, Bruce has a Bachelor of Pharmacy, Master of Divinity and Doctor of Education degrees. Bruce is also a pastor, Interim District Superintendent in New Zealand, and engaged in mentoring pastors and young people who are exploring ministry possibilities. Working alongside Bruce is his wife of 43 years, Jacqueline. They have three children and one grandson.

Dan Balayo

Holistic Child Development Coordinator
Asia-Pacific Region

Dan is the Holistic Child Development Coordinator for Nazarene Compassionate Ministries in the Asia-Pacific Region and the District Superintendent in the Mindanao West District, Philippines. He is also the President fo Nazaraios Child Development Foundation in Iligan City, PH and the Task Force Coordinator for Connecting A New Generation in Asia-Pacific. He holds a Bachelor of Theology, a Master of Divinity and a Graduate Certificate on Holistic Child Development. Dan lives with his wife, Mary Jean and two children, Ann and Dean in Mindanao, Philippines.

Steve Barber

Northern Thailand

Steve is a missionary to Northern Thailand who is learning Lahu and creating simple books in Lahu, an oral culture that is just beginning to read and learn in their written language. Steve is actively involving local church members of all ages in North Thailand to use technology to create both printed and audio books.

Neville Bartle

Neville Bartle is a former missionary to Papua New Guinea, New Zealand District Superintendant, and pastor with at least 50 years combined ministry among oral learners.

Floyd Cunninghamm

Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary

Floyd teaches the history of Christianity at Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary. He earned his PhD in history at Johns Hopkins University. He has served at APNTS for 35 years.

Leody Echavez

National Coordinator
Nazarene Compassionate Ministries Philippines

Leody was born and raised in Mindanao, Philippines. He received a Bachelor of Arts in History and International Studies at Xavier University Ateneo De Cagayan. He currently serves as National Coordinator for Nazarene Compassionate Ministries Philippines Inc., coordinating projects for Disaster Management and Response, Water Sanitation and Hygiene, Child Development, and HIV AIDS programs for the Philippine Nazarene church. Prior to this role, Leody served in various capacities in the Church of the Nazarene Philippines such as: Field Team Leader for Nazarene Disaster Response in Zamboanga City serving the internally displaced and marginalized people affected by the war, organizing temporary learning spaces and feeding programs. He also served as the Field Anti-Human Trafficking Coordinator for Nazarene Philippines where he developed anti-human trafficking materials for the local churches, conducted advocacy campaigns in various areas across the country, anti-human trafficking trainings and the focus on the fight against Online Sexual Exploitation of Children (OSEC). He serves as the Chairman of the Board for Shechem Children’s Home, an assessment shelter/center operated by the church serving the survivors of OSEC. Leody is passionate about social justice and the role of the church in being the tangible hands and feet of Jesus in the community. He is currently pursuing a Masters in Transformational Development at Eastern College Australia. Whenever he is free, he always make sure he can do his hobbies, mountain climbing and free diving.

Dick Eugenio

Dick Eugenio currently the Academic Dean of Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary in the Philippines. He is also the Sunday School and Discipleship Ministries (SDMI) Field Coordinator for the Philippine-Micronesia Field. His ministry passion is equipping saints for works of service, both in academia and the local church. He has an AB Theology, Master of Divinity, Master of Science in Theology, and a Doctor of Philosophy. He is married to Mary Ann, and together they are blessed to have two children, Heloise (7) and Jed (2).

Jasmin Eugenio

Jasmin (Jazz) is the Holistic Child Development Coordinator for the Philippine Micronesia Field. She has a Bachelor of Theology and a Master of Divinity. She has a husband, Marcos and two children, Josiah and Maeve.

Matthew Galman

Matthew was raised in the Nazarene church. He received a Certificate in General Nursing from Nazarene College of Nursing in Papua New Guinea and a Diploma of Management from Divine Word University. He has medical service experience in remote communities and has been a holistic community health trainer to many local communities in PNG through Nazarene Health Ministries Division of Community Based Health Care. He has served as a member of the management team for Nazarene Health Ministries. He has a wife, Sandra Brian, three daughters and one son.

Dr. John and Vicki Moore

John and Vicki Moore have been in pastoral ministry since 1977. Their first two pastorates were church plants: Chino, California, from 1977-1987; and College Church of the Nazarene on the campus of Nazarene Theological College in Brisbane, Australia, where they also served as lecturers from 1987-1992. The school attracts a global student population and supplied significant practical experience in cross-cultural ministry. These years provided preparation for a transitioning ministry at Christ Community Church of the Nazarene in Concord, California, where they served from 1992 to 2006. Christ Community is located in a diverse neighborhood: within 1.3 miles of the church campus live 30,000 immigrants from over 50 countries, speaking 27 languages. During their tenure, the church became multi-congregational—one church with worship expressions in five languages: Indonesian, Korean, Spanish, Tamil, and English.

Both John and Vicki graduated from Pt. Loma Nazarene University. John holds Graduate degrees from Nazarene Theological Seminary and Fuller Graduate School of Theology. Vicki is a secondary school teacher. They have four children and five very remarkable grandsons.

In 2006 they moved to the Eurasia Region where John served as the Regional Coordinator of Evangelism and Church Planting and District Superintendent of the Hungary District, residing in Budapest, Hungary. In May of 2010 the Moores assumed appointment as Field Strategy Coordinator for Australia/New Zealand on the Asia Pacific Region where he and Vicki reside near the Gold Coast, Australia. John also serves as Regional Education and Clergy development Coordinator for the Asia Pacific Region working alongside 13 Nazarene schools on the AP Region.

E.R. is a graphic artist-turned-pastor who is presently pastoring Harvest Pointe Church of the Nazarene in Cebu City, Philippines.

He serves as the Anti-Human Trafficking (AHT) Coordinator of the Church of the Nazarene in the Visayas working closely with other AHT organizations in combatting Online Sexual Exploitation of Children.

When he has free time, you will find E.R. outdoors or riding his motorcycle.

Nate and his wife, Hope, are the Regional Communications Coordinators for the Asia-Pacific Region. Nate has a Masters in Dispute Resolution and Conflict Management from Southern Methodist University in the Dallas, TX area. He has a bachelors degree in Communications from Mt. Vernon Nazarene University. He holds a district license in the Michigan District in the United States. Nate is passionate about peace. The Owens family lives in Manila with their two energetic boys, Forest and Peter.

Harmon & Cindy Schmelzenbach

Harmon has served as Field Strategy Coordinator on the Melanesia and South Pacific Fields since 2009. Prior to that, since 2000 he served as Director of Nazarene Maritime Ministries, based in Fiji. He is a Certified Life and Leadership Professional Coach as well as a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach. Cindy has served as the Asia-Pacific Member Care Coordinator since 2016. She has a Master of Arts in Human Services Counselling and is a Certified Life and Leadership Professional Coach and Gallup Certified Strengths Coach and holds a coaching credential through the International Coach Federation. Harmon and Cindy deeply value and seek to nurture authenticity and resilience in ministry. They have 2 married, adult children and 3 amazing grandkids.

Jubilee is a pastor, educator, writer, and administrator in Church of the Nazarene, Myanmar. Now, he is leading a national indigenous children ministry organization known as Hi Kidz Myanmar Foundation in Myanmar. He is a trainer and speaker for children ministry in Myanmar and international conferences. He married to Moe Moe and live in Yangon with their growing two sons, Samuel (14) and Joel (12).

Jerome is the Southeast Asia Field NCM Coordinator and helps local churches in their effort to make Christ-like compassionate people.

He has a Bachelor of Law and a Master of Religious Education.

Before working as SEA Field NCM Coordinator, he was the Field Facilitator for the United Nation Development Program in their early recovery program and the Community Development Facilitator for World Vision in Myanmar. He has facilitated community-based recovery programs and development in agriculture, livestock, social infrastructure, income-generating business, disaster risk reduction, Self-Reliance Group and WASH (Water Sanitation And Hygiene).

John Watton

John is married to Laurie and they have a daughter, a son and four grandchildren. John’s educational background includes a BSc. in Agriculture and an MTh in Biblical Studies. Ministry engagement over the years has included local, district, national and international endeavours. John served Nazarene Compassionate Ministries in Canada in the 1990’s and then served as the NCM Field Coordinator for the Africa West Field from 2003-2013. His current role is the Regional Coordinator for Nazarene Compassionate Ministries on the Asia Pacific Region. In addition, John pastors a local church in Caroline, Alberta, Canada. Scripture has become more and more important to John and he enjoys reading it, memorizing it and writing songs about it.

George Williamson

George Williamson is the Director of Worship Arts at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, he was raised in the United Kingdom. George and his wife, Tanya, have three young children, Naomi (11), George (9), and Thomas (6). George's heart is to see artists in the local church last the long-haul in ministry, focused on loving God and people more than simply just their craft. His work largely centers around the mentoring of Worship Leaders, nurturing them to serve with creativity, sound theology, humility, and to pursue excellence in the spirit of Bezalel, of whom God said in Exodus 31 " I have filled him with the Spirit of God, giving him great wisdom, ability, and expertise in all kinds of crafts" (NLT).
